Laughlin Coronavirus Updates

The health and safety of all visitors to Laughlin is paramount and the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority (LVCVA) is committed to providing travelers with accurate and timely information about traveling to the destination, as well as to ensure that we continue to provide a safe environment for those who are visiting. 

The LVCVA continues working closely with the U.S. Travel Association, McCarran International Airport as well as County and State Public Health officials to gather and share the latest developments regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The LVCVA also continues closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and the World Health Organization for timely updates regarding the evolving Coronavirus situation and its impact.
 

March 18, 2020

On March 17, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak issued a statewide closure of all casinos, restaurants, bars and other nonessential businesses for 30 days, and he urged Nevadans to stay inside to reduce their chance of becoming infected and spreading the virus. 

The mandate includes temporary closure of:

  • Hotels and casinos;
  • Dine-in restaurants, bars, pubs, wineries, nightclubs and dayclubs;
  • Movie theaters and bowling alleys;
  • Attractions and museums;
  • Beauty and barber shops and nail, tanning and waxing salons; and
  • Gyms, health clubs and fitness centers.
  • Sporting arenas and concert venues

Exception to restaurant closures:

  • Restaurants that can provide delivery, drive-through, pick-up or curbside service may stay open, but sit-down dining establishments should close.

In light of the pandemic, and based on the CDC-issued guidance for mass gatherings, events across Nevada have been cancelled or postponed amid travel restrictions and these increased health precautions. We will be doing our best to update our pages as announcements are made, however, we strongly recommend confirming the status of attractions and upcoming events by reaching out directly to the attraction, venue or ticket provider before proceeding.

Travel:

  • Currently, there are no restrictions on travel within the domestic U.S.
  • The White House announced that starting on March 13 travel is restricted to the U.S. from most of Europe for 30 days. This restriction does not apply to U.S. citizens or their family members.
  • Travel is also restricted for those who have been in China and/or Iran during the last 14 days.

Healthy Travel Tips:

Travelers and visitors are encouraged to always practice healthy habits when traveling, including following the below CDC-recommended practices:

  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care. Learn what to do if you are sick.

Nevada Travel Information

Nevada’s Resort Industry already maintains many common-sense preventive measures and strategies to fight disease, such as robust cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene protocols. To further safeguard our guests and employees during this time, the industry is further strengthening and reinforcing these practices.  These proactive efforts include the following:

  • Increased and more frequent cleaning and disinfection: Resorts already conduct consistent and strict environmental cleaning and adhere to the recommendations set forth in the U.S. EPA Emerging Pathogen Policy regarding cleaning and disinfectants. Routine cleaning focuses on frequently touched surfaces throughout the resorts – items such as guest rooms, public spaces, bathrooms, restaurants, elevators, doorknobs and locks, handrails, faucets and toilet levers, light switches, air conditioning switches, remote controls, slot machine handles, buttons and armrests, taps, kitchen worktops and workspaces.  To be proactive, Nevada’s Resort Industry has increased the frequency of these cleaning and disinfection practices and is using industrial strength cleaning products and disinfectants that kill COVID-19 and flu viruses. 
  • Adding additional hand sanitizer stations throughout the resorts for employees and guests: This include positioning hand sanitizer stations in high-traffic public areas, such as entrances and exits, hotel lobbies, restaurants, restrooms and gaming areas, as well as throughout the employee areas behind the scenes in what’s known as “back of house.”
  • Reinforcing standard hygiene practices with employees, including the current CDC guidance on preventing infection from COVID-19: Resorts are reinforcing CDC guidance on frequent hand washing, cough and sneeze etiquette, staying home when sick, sending home sick employees and avoiding close contact with those who are sick. 
  • Robust internal employee communications programs that reinforce personal hygiene best practices. To further emphasize the latest information from the CDC and the local health districts regarding prevention, symptoms, protocols, the industry continues to share the timely information with employees. 

In addition to these enhanced measures, Nevada’s Resort Industry also practices other preventive measures as a part of daily operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some of these include:

  • Deep sanitization of items used by guests with hot water and commercial grade detergents which include commercial laundry facilities for linens and sanitizing silverware and food and beverage items. 
  • Resorts have specialized training on sanitization/cleaning protocols for environmental services (EVS) teams, housekeeping, food and beverage teams. Resorts have EVS technicians who are dedicated to keeping resorts clean and sanitized. 
  • State-of-the-art ventilation and filtration systems. Our members invest heavily in advanced technology throughout their properties that filters and circulates fresh air. From specialized ventilation and filtration systems to air-handling units, the industry continues to utilize the latest innovations to provide improved air quality for our employees and guests.
